Have you ever noticed that when you are doing things you love, working towards a goal that is meaningful, or contributing to the greater good it just FEELS AMAZING? And when you are neglecting yourself, your dreams, or working towards something that is not meaningful to you, you feel bad? You may even get depressed, angry, or blame yourself.
Our biology has evolved to SHOW US HOW TO FEEL GOOD.
The FLOW research also backs this up.
Flow is a biological reward that shows us how we can be motivated and create lives that are fulfilling for us and for the whole of humanity. Flow allows us to be present in the moment, be focused on what we are doing and feel satisfaction and happiness.
AUTONOMY is one of the main 'flow triggers' that allows us to bring more flow into our lives. In fact, one of the top organizations for FLOW is Montessori schools. Why? Because kids are able to develop their skills by having choice. Choosing what interests them.
This is also why Google developed the 20% rule...allowing team members to work on what really lights them up for 20% of their time at work.

So why is following what we DESIRE biologically wired into us?
We are wired for meaning and to express our unique creative ESSENCE. When we follow our intuition, it guides us to share this uniqueness with the whole, which allows all of us to EVOLVE innovatively (think about the evolution of farming), emotionally, culturally and spiritually. Following your desires is not selfish. It's the furthest thing from it.
