Thoughts on grief & creativity

Many of us are dealing with a lot of grief right now. There is so much pain and suffering in the world. On top of that, the Holidays bring up difficult memories and feelings for many people. Grief is very present for many of us now. As artists and sensitives, we are meant to feel everything, both the worst parts of humanity and the best so that we can transmute it into healing and beauty that can be shared with others. But during these difficult times, this can feel impossible to bear.

There are times in the grief cycle when no matter what you do, you can’t find the motivation to create. I want to tell you that this is normal. Grief is meant to be felt, it’s a death of sorts, meant to be processed so that what’s new can come through.

For some people, anger will arise and they will have the desire to create from this anger. This is normal too. Anger is a natural part of the grieving process. When we feel the pain of helplessness, and anger arises, let yourself create if that’s what your body and soul want. Just let it out without it needing to be anything or go anywhere. Let it be messy and imperfect.

If you find yourself struggling to focus right now, you are not alone. Trust yourself and your process. Be kind to yourself and let yourself feel.

I’m sending you all my love and peace.
May all beings everywhere be happy and free of suffering.
